Our selecting plants are located in the different quarries situated in the Somme Bay near Cayeux-sur-Mer (Le Hourdel, Le Crotoy, etc…) on the Channel coast in the North of France.
Coastal pebbles are formed from siliceous concretions contained in the high chalk cliffs of Seine-Maritime.
Under the effect of marine erosion, the flint nodules are freed from their chalky matrix, then churned and rolled by the combined action of the swell and the marine currents.
The silex thus becomes progressively a flint pebble, it is carried by the effect of the waves into the Somme estuary. |
